Beltline Custom Systems – Steel Profiles

The customer approached us at a trade show in Germany and was looking for a washing system for his large-scale production of extruded steel profiles in eastern Russia. All of the steel profiles were heavily contaminated with oil and dirt, which had to be removed to meet a requirement from a major customer.

In this case, the problem was not the washing process or the rust protection of the parts during transport to Germany, but rather the large volume of parts and the process of handling them through the washing facility, which made it a complex task even for experienced companies like ours.

The washing system itself had to handle 6–8 different types of steel profiles ranging in length from 1,000 to 6,000 mm, which had to be washed, passivated, and dried within a short period of time. Therefore, the washing system had to process more than 6 metric tons of steel per hour, 24 hours a day.

After a lengthy discussion involving various proposed solutions, we found a solution that suited the customer’s production line, and we began designing the washing system based on our Belt washer with a chain conveyor—but on a very large scale, which ended up being the largest Belt washer we have ever delivered.

Design, production, and installation took less than a year, and the washing system was installed in Russia by our team; within less than a week, the customer was already washing steel profiles. The customer has not experienced any problems since the installation, and we have therefore not been back to Russia since then; the cleaning system has been running around the clock, which is not always the case with large-scale development projects like this one.
