Dansk Dekommissionering

Dansk Dekommissionering handles radioactive wastewater from various processes related to the shutdown and decommissioning of former nuclear facilities at Risø. With declining activity in the nuclear sector, the existing evaporation plant had become outdated and inefficient, characterized by high energy consumption, high noise levels, and the need for constant monitoring.

About Dansk Dekommissionering

Dansk Dekommissionering, formerly known as the Risø Research Center, was established in September 2003 with responsibility for the shutdown and decommissioning of nuclear facilities at Risø. The institution treats radioactive wastewater from various processes related to nuclear activity, such as decontamination booths and sinks.

Dansk Dekommissionering's challenge

With declining activity in the nuclear sector, the old evaporation plant had become outdated and inefficient. The evaporation plant was too large, generated a high level of noise, consumed a great deal of energy, and required constant monitoring. Therefore, a modern, more efficient solution was needed. In this regard, they contacted Envotherm Solution to explore options for a more energy-efficient and modern evaporation solution.

The Solution

ENVOTHERM supplied an ET200 E•MVR, which cantreat up to 1,200 m³ of radioactive wastewater per year. This solution is much more compact, hasa low noise level, and consumes less energycompared to the previous solution.

The ET200 system is equipped withweb-based monitoring, which makes it possible to monitor the system remotely and respond quickly when necessary. In addition,it requiresminimal maintenance andoffers high mobility, making it possible to relocate the system if necessary at a later date.

With ENVOTHERM’s ET200 solution, Dansk Dekommissionering has achieved an efficient and sustainable method for treating radioactive wastewater, while alsoreducing operating costs and improving the system’s reliability.
